Kentucky Probation Search: See Who Is Under Supervision for Free

Since probation records are often confidential, probation searches can be challenging. However, it’s a streamlined process to perform probation searches in Kentucky since the state has an excellent system to track probationers and parolees.

To find information about recent cases, interested parties should contact the relevant district court. Information about how to contact the relevant court can be found on the Kentucky Court of Justice record request page.1 further details on this will be provided in the next section of this resource. Older court records can be accessed via the State Records Center. Interested parties can email state.records@ky.gov or call 502-564-3617.

The Kentucky Department of Corrections offers a simple online search portal known as KOOL. An acronym for the Kentucky Online Offender Lookup, this system is available to the general public and requires no registration to access, making statewide probation searches both efficient and effective.2

To use KOOL to find information about an offender who has been through the Kentucky court system and adjudged guilty, provide as much information as possible about the individual. This includes the offender’s first and last name and any known aliases. The tool returns a list of results based on the information entered.

From the results, click on the offender’s name to find information on previous offenses, current court cases, conviction information and probation status, including the location/district of the offender’s assigned parole officer and the person’s supervision status. Statuses can include absconded, active (direct supervision), inactive, incarcerated, sealed, expunged or pardoned.

Kentucky’s Division of Probation & Parole is divided into 20 districts and four regions, including the Central, Northern, Western and Eastern regions.4

A state map on the division’s website page indicates which counties are included in each district, making it easier to perform a statewide probation search. The division publishes a list of contact details for each district.5

The central Probation and Parole office can be reached by telephone at 502-782-2315.

Individuals who have violated the rules of their probation may appear in statewide fugitive or wanted lists. These lists will be discussed later in this resource.

How To Look Up Probation Violations & Supervising Officer Contact Details in Kentucky

To find out if someone has violated their probation conditions in Kentucky, it can be helpful to do a public records search in the county where the violation occurred or where the probationer is assigned to a district probation office.

These records may be included in the office of the clerk for both district and circuit court cases. In addition, access KOOL to check the offender’s convictions from their individual KOOL page.

When accessing the KOOL portal for probation searches of Kentucky offenders, it’s easy to find contact details for the offender’s assigned district. Follow the steps outlined above to perform an offender search. The location of supervision is linked to the offender’s KOOL page.

Some districts have multiple offices. Contact details for each office in every district are provided by the Division of Probation & Parole.6 This resource also lists the most current district supervisor and the supervisors for each district office, along with the office’s address, phone and fax number.

KOOL also provides escape or abscond dates for probationers and parolees in the Kentucky jail and prison systems.

In addition to the escapee and absconder records provided by KOOL, there are Most Wanted lists provided by the U.S. Marshalls, and maintained by third parties such as Kentuckiana Crime Stoppers.7

How To View Details of Parolees Anywhere in Kentucky

Information about every offender arrested and granted probation and parole in Kentucky is curated in the files of the KOOL system. This allows for fast, free probation searches in Kentucky, using specific data about the individual, including their name and any aliases used.

To utilize the tool to view details of parolees throughout Kentucky, enter the requested information and select the offender’s name from the returned results. A photograph of the offender along with their personal details such as age, race, gender, weight and hair/eye color can help identify the correct offender if multiple offenders by the same name are in the system.

The offender’s probation status (usually “regular”) is listed on the KOOL page for the offender. A risk assessment rating is also assigned to the offender by the Kentucky Department of Corrections and listed on the offender’s KOOL page. The page also details the location information for the probation/parole officer, along with a link to the contact details for that district.

Inmates within Kentucky jails and prisons who may be eligible for parole are added to the parole board’s website in advance of the determination of parole and their release.8, 9 Offenders on this docket are scheduled to be seen by the parole board, although parole is not guaranteed. Lists are generated monthly and published several months in advance.

Citizens who have a concern about a specific inmate’s eligibility for parole can call Kentucky’s Victim Information & Notification Everyday (VINE) system at +1-800-511-1670. VINE is free to use and available to anyone who’s interested in using it.

This automated notification system alerts interested parties, including concerned citizens and victims of the offender–to changes in an offender’s custody status. Once a phone number and/or email address is registered with VINE, the system sends alerts if the offender is released or is moved between facilities or prisons.

The state’s KOOL system and court records custodians help members of the public access the information they need about offenders for free. Other great resources for a Kentucky probation search include the county clerk’s office and local sheriff’s office in the county where the offender resides, committed an offense, or is assigned to a probation or parole office.
